The U.S. has repeatedly, intentionally, and violently suppressed all efforts of Korean Reunification.

After student mobilizations overthrew U.S. backed dictator Syngman Rhee in 1960, the new government set itself on the path to reunification with the North. A joint representative body was purposed, and Kim il-sung himself was excited about the prospect. Four days before the conference that would have discussed this alliance occurred, a second U.S. backed coup overthrew the democratically elected leadership in the South, and installed another dictatorship fronted by Park Chung-hee and former members of the Japanese military. The free press was destroyed, thousands political leaders were arrested, and investigations into U.S. war crimes were closed.
